About us

A family business that builds additions

Kulkarni Builders began in 1984 as a framing crew and a truck. It's still a family company, now with fifteen people.

We build additions and renovate whole houses in Charlotte and the towns around it. We keep the company small so that the people who walk your house are the people who build it.

  • Two building crews of our own carpenters

  • An estimator and a permit coordinator in the office

  • A superintendent on every job

The people

Who you'll deal with

  • Mahesh Kulkarni

    Founder

Started the company in 1984 and still walks every house before we draw it.

  • Sakshi Kulkarni

    President

Runs the company and signs every contract. Your first call goes to her or to Mahesh.

  • Ayanna Monroe

    Superintendent

Runs the site: the crews, the schedule and the inspections.

  • Jevon Crockett

    Lead carpenter

Leads the framing crew on additions and second stories.

  • Alanis Camargo

    Permits and scheduling

Files the permits, books the inspections and keeps the paperwork straight.

How we work

Three habits we keep

  • We draw it first

Nothing is priced until it's drawn, and nothing is built until it's permitted.

  • We write it down

Scope, schedule, payments and changes are in writing, and you have a copy.

  • We say no

If a move is the better answer, we say so. If the job is too small or too far, we say that too.

Who we're not for

Where we're the wrong call

It saves everybody time.

  • Projects smaller than a room

Repairs, a deck or a fence are better with a handyman or a specialist. We'll give you a name.

  • New houses

We build onto houses that already exist.

  • Roof-only jobs

A new roof is part of an addition. On its own, a roofer does it better.

  • The lowest bid

We don't compete on price. We compete on drawing it right the first time.
